Bullying is when people make fun of you because of your looks, the way you talk, or other personal traits. In Slovenia, there is more and more bullying because many children are influenced by social media, where they criticise influencers, and this often leads to bullying in real life. People who bully others usually feel more confident when they are in a group. When they have bystanders, they will say things they probably wouldn’t if they were alone. The impact of bullying isn’t always entirely negative. Some people take it as motivation to change something they feel insecure about, but most take it very seriously and fall into depression because of it. Without help, that depression can even lead to suicide. As you get older, there tends to be less bullying because people mature — not only physically but also mentally — and realise there is no point in bullying others because of their appearance. You learn to accept yourself the way you are. Victims definitely need mental and emotional support. If you see or know someone who is being bullied, talk to them before it’s too late. Aljoša, 3a Bullying is something that happens all over the world. As long as you are slightly different from other kids, there is a big possibility that you will be picked on or bullied. It can be caused by many things, such as dressing differently, looking different, or coming from a lower - income family. It does not happen only among children — it can also happen among young adults or even grown -ups. Nowadays, social media makes bullying easier. I have not witnessed as much bullying in real life as I have on social media. Anyone can make anonymous comments about someone, create fake accounts, or post pictures without your knowledge. They can even threaten people through comments and make them feel self - conscious, which can, in the worst cases, lead to suicide. There is a big difference between teasing and bullying. Teasing mostly happens among friends, and it is acceptable as long as it does not cross the line — for example, saying hurtful words that could really harm someone. If you hurt someone physically or verbally, it is considered bullying. The best way to prevent bullying is to step in and tell a trustworthy person who can help. The worst thing you can do when witnessing bullying is to stay silent. If nobody speaks up, the bullying continues. Another way to prevent bullying in schools is for teachers to pay attention to what is happening and for parents to notice any changes in their child’s behaviour.
