EUROPEAN SCHOOL LJUBLJANA PROGRAMME

• Is adopted by the Minister of Education, we are a Slovene public school; • Lasts for 14 years: 2 years of Nursery , 5 years of Primary and 7 years of Secondary education; • Primary 1 enrolment is open for children who turn 6 in the calendar year of entrance; • schooling ends with a European Baccalaureate that secures acceptance in all European universities; • The programme is performed in two language sections, Slovene (L1) and English (L1); • The student is enrolled in the language section that corresponds to their mother tongue or dominant language. • All the teachers in both language sections are fully qualified and are native speakers of the language of instruction; • The first foreign language (L2) is introduced in Primary year 1 and the second foreign language (L3) in Secondary year 1; • The first foreign language is also a language of instruction in ethics, human sciences, history and geography from Secondary year 3 onwards; • The first foreign language options: German or French • The second foreign language options: German, French, Italian, Spanish or Slovene. • Slovenian language is a compulsory subject in the primary English language section and optional at the secondary level. • The seven years of secondary education are organised in the following way: • Observation cycle (S1 - S3): a common course for all students; most of the subjects are taught in the language corresponding to the pupil’s language section. • Pre-orientation cycle (S4 – S5): compulsory courses in sciences, including chemistry, biology, physics, and mathematics for either 4 or 6 periods. Optional courses: economics, L4, Latin, ancient Greek, art, music and ICT. • Orientation cycle (S6 – S7): leads to the European

Baccalaureate and includes compulsory, optional, and complementary subjects.
