WELCOME TO THE EUROPEAN SCHOOL LJUBLJANA!

The European School Ljubljana is the only public Slovenian school in a growing network of Accredited European Schools. ESLj first opened its doors to pupils in September 2018. Since then, we are creating a supportive and encouraging learning space for the education of children and teenagers from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Together with pupils and their parents, we are building bridges between diversities. By identifying potentials of each and every pupil, we are able to encourage and support pupils on their way to achieve high educational standards. Using innovative pedagogical practices, we are stimulating curiosity, peer collaboration, respect and ethics and committing ourselves to responsible European citizenship values. Educated side by side, untroubled from infancy by divisive prejudices, acquainted with all that is great and good in the different cultures … they will become in mind Europeans, schooled and ready to … bring into being a united and thriving Europe. EUROPEAN SCHOOL LJUBLJANA

EUROPEAN SCHOOL LJUBLJANA PROGRAMME

• lasts for 12 years, 5 of primary level and 7 of secondary level ;

• Primary 1 enrolment is open for children who turn 6 in the calendar year of entrance; • schooling ends with a European Baccalaureate that secures acceptance in all European universities; • the programme is performed in two language sections , Slovene and English; • pupils attend the language section in his/her mother tongue or dominant language; • if none of the language sections correspond to the pupil’s mother tongue or a dominant language, the pupil is usually enrolled in the English language section, under special conditions also in the Slovenian language section; • all the teachers in both language sections are fully qualified and are native speakers of the language of the section or the foreign language as a subject in the section; • the first foreign language is introduced in P1 and second foreign language is introduced in S1; • the first foreign language is also a language of instruction at ethics, human sciences, history and geography from S3 onwards; • first foreign language: German or French; • second foreign language: German, French, Italian, Spanish and Slovene; • in P1 and P2 a teaching period lasts 30 minutes; • Slovenian language is a compulsory subject in the primary English language section and optional at secondary level.

WHERE ARE WE?

The headquarters of the European School Ljubljana is located in the centre of Ljubljana, in a building of the Ljubljana School Centre, Aškerčeva Street 1, opposite the French Embassy.

HOW TO ACCESS US?

The very entrance of the school can be reached by car following the Barjanska Street driveway, where parking spaces are available. You can also access us by using public transport. The following bus lines bring you to our premises: • lines 1, 1B, 6 and 6B, bus stop on Aškerčeva Street • line 9, bus stop on Barjanska Street • lines 2, 3, 3B, 3G, 11, 11B, 19B, 19I, 27 in 78, bus stop on Zoisova Street
