MODA - FASHION Dress code? The dress code in schools has always been a sensitive subject for many people, especially older people. It’s something that hasn’t changed in years and still feels outdated. I understand that it’s not suitable to wear a very low - cut top or a short dress to school, but many girls get into trouble for something that shouldn’t be an issue nowadays. For example, exposing their shoulders or too much skin on their legs. The problem is not the dress code itself, but the fact that it mainly focuses on girls. It is often said that a girl can wear anything as long as it doesn’t distract boys. As if it were a girl’s problem that boys can’t behave. In some schools, girls must wear a sweater if they reveal their shoulders in summer. Why don’t we teach boys how to behave and control themselves instead of always blaming girls? If the situation were reversed, and a girl claimed that a man’s shoulders are distracting her, they would tell her to control herself. Why should a girl be punished for a man’s dirty mind? Luckily, I don’t really have problems at my school, but I’ve heard from other girls how the rules impact them. The issue isn’t the dress code itself, but how it’s written. Lili, 3a
